Why I Stayed Home With My Child

I quit my seven figure job when I got pregnant in the rush to set up my own company through my pregnancy so I can run it when I’m at home with my child later.

After almost two decades of corporate work life and an accountancy and technology career in consulting, I chose to stay at home with my child.

I am still here and while I’m not planning another child any time soon (or ever so far), this is the first time in my entire life that I have taken it easy.

Do I obsess over things that don’t need to be obsessed over? Absolutely. Do I struggle with simplifying my overly perfect and articulated life into a chaos of kinetic sand, stickers and play doh. Every single day.

What I don’t have an iota of, is regret.

Where, like Mayim here I am far from being a perfect parent I also don’t speak for all moms and just do so for myself. I was blessed enough to be able to make this choice. I know my mother wasn’t. She had to keep working to keep the finances rolling. They had married young. My father got his first job a year before I was born! My husband and I have been working for two decades.

Circumstances are different for everyone. Financial Software speak leaves me gasping for more and tech and accountancy talk makes my insides twinge for all that I was accustomed to eating, breathing, sleeping, LIVING.

What also makes my heart flip is my two year old making complex sentences and I’m here to witness each one of them.

This is where we raise the flag of making mothering, that women are naturally predisposed to do, easier for us while we continue our heart’s nearest and dearest careers, here’s Mayim Bialik sharing how and why Staying at Home with my child is the best decision I ever made.
