Through my life that seems like a mix of multiple lifetimes when I look back (yes I’m old) I have come across various instances where I’ve had to begrudgingly revert to speaking with customer care professionals.
Needless to say I’ve had the misfortune of coming across plenty of disturbingly ill mannered (and ill fit for the job) and unhelpful individuals whose job description requires them to be helpful. Way more than actually helpful ones.
In the midst of all of this when you are pleasantly surprised, it sure elicits a separate post of appreciation.
You see I feel the need to jump. I don’t walk. I like to run when it comes to doing things. Sometimes I will step over my own feet and trip. Only to get up and March forward stronger but I do trip. It’s in those tripped up moments that one figures who has what value.
So here I am with a vision to one day expand my personal blog into SOMETHING (I don’t even know WHAT specifically) larger than just a blog.
keeping that in mind I moved it from WordPress dot com to self hosted website on WordPress dot org. Here’s why if you want more nerdy details.
For this I requested the paid service of guided transfer that comes with a fifteen day service period.
It all went smoothly until that point of export and expiry of those fifteen days. A couple of weeks later, to be specific YESTERDAY I had a bright idea and decided to make some changes at the backend to make the two domains I own point towards the same website.
So I changed the site url. And blonk!
There went the lights.
I could not access the backend dashboard of my dot org website and the face of the website looked like a text-only email instead of the gorgeous website theme I used.
Almost in tears I frantically reached out to the friendly WordPress “Happiness Engineers” as they very rightly deserve to be called.
Left them a half crying note, willing to pay them with body organs if they fixed my website and guess what? Within less than a day I had two Happiness Engineers reaching out. One with a detailed tutorial of what needs to be done and the other offering to do it for me.
It almost reminded me of the love and friendly banter I shared with the Happiness Engineer who did my guided transfer in the first place.
Tracy
Man. She was awesome. We joked, we laughed and we got the ball rolling.
Kristen and Gaurav today though were exceptional.
One gave a detailed lowdown for how to fix it. The other just stepped forward, got authorisation from me to access my accounts and fixed it.
I left messages in caps lock for them to the effect of I love you more than the world and that you’re the best!
Don’t know what else to do though.
So thought I’d put it in a post.
Most times in life we are so myopic, it’s very difficult to imagine the bigger picture. It’s only then that we end up in a panic attack. It’s only then when we feel helpless and hopeless.
It is then that we need these Happiness Engineers most in life.
May we all have a Tracy, Kristen or a Gaurav hanging around to hold our hand and walk us through the cow dung in life.
Amen.
